Lenny Curry will have to learn rules of Curling soon

Jacksonville hosts the National Curling Championships starting Feb. 6.

These will be an educational opportunity for locals, many of whom contend that Curling implies the fine art of home perms.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry is expected to be involved.

“We would like for Mayor Curry, per the request of the National Curling Association, to do what’s called the first ‘stone’ throw which is a part of the ceremony on the ice at the Arena,” writes Sports and Entertainment Director Dave Herrell in an email to Curry’s senior staff.

No word yet on Curry’s commitment to the Curling cartel.

Curling, a popular sport in Canada, has gained popularity stateside in recent years. This national competition is an example of Jacksonville’s aggressive approach to recruiting sports events, especially outside of the peak tourist season, to the city.
