State Rep. Darren Soto announced Friday he has received support from four more labor unions, representing allied trades, electrical workers, ironworkers, and aerospace workers.
Soto, an Orlando Democrat, is running in the Orlando-based Congressional District 9.
The announcement covers the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
“I am honored to have earned the support of the hardworking men and women of these trade unions which represent thousands of workers, including many here in Central Florida,” Soto stated in a news release from his campaign. “I”ll keep fighting alongside the labor movement for a better deal for working families.
Soto is in a Democratic primary fight with Susannah Randolph, Dena Minning, Valleri Crabtree and Ricardo Rangel to replace Democratic U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson of Orlando who’s running for the U.S. Senate. Announced Republican candidates for the district, which has a strong Democratic lean, are Wanda Rentas and Wayne Liebnitzky.
Soto pledged that in Congress he would support efforts to preserve Davis-Bacon prevailing wage protections, stand up against groups advocating for Federal “Right to Work” legislation, and support legislation preserving the right to organize.
