Travis Keels says he’s leaving the James Madison Institute for the press secretary gig at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Keels, who’s been JMI’s Director of Public Affairs for the past two years, announced the move Friday. The organization is a “free-market think tank” based in Tallahassee.
His time there “allowed me the opportunity to grow in my career as well as meet many of you,” he said in an email sent to FloridaPolitics.com. “I am grateful for my time at JMI and wish the Institute nothing but the best.”
Keels isn’t taking any time off: He starts at DBPR on Monday, he said.
According to his JMI bio, the former Jacksonville resident graduated from Florida State University with a double-major in international affairs and geography.
He also interned for the Capital Area Red Cross and state Sen. Thad Altman, a Rockledge Republican.
