Marco Rubio is starting to make his final pitch to Iowa voters, outlining what’s at stake this election cycle — and why he thinks Hillary Clinton shouldn’t get elected — in a new commercial airing in Iowa.
The 30-second spot — called “Defeating Hillary” — is set to begin airing in Iowa on Thursday. The Iowa caucuses, the first nominating contest of the 2016 election, are Monday.
“America is exceptional. Every generation before us met the great challenges of their time. But after seven long years of this president, we feel our country slipping away,” he is heard saying in the advertisement. “This election is about defeating Hillary Clinton and about saving what makes America unique.”
Rubio is spending the days leading up to the Iowa caucuses barnstorming around the Hawkeye State. He has events scheduled throughout the weekend, including rallies in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids and Davenport on Sunday.
The Florida Republican is currently in third place in Iowa, trailing Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. According to Iowa polling averages compiled by RealClearPolitics, Rubio is at 13.8 percent.
