Pastor, actor and activist Ken Bevel will be the keynote speaker at the Florida Faith and Freedom Coalition 2016 Legislative Prayer Breakfast in Tallahassee on March 1.
After a 20-year career in the Marine Corps, the Jacksonville native is now senior associate pastor of Connections and Major Events at Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia.
“Pastor Bevel’s ministry and military service combined with the biblical values portrayed in his film roles make his perspective very relevant to our goals,” said Florida Faith and Freedom Coalition President Jim Kallinger. “We are thrilled that he will be joining us this year and believe that his remarks will be timely as we approach the critical final days of the Legislative Session and this year’s elections.”
As an actor, Bevel appeared in the movies “Fireproof” and played Nathan Hayes in “Courageous,” an award-winning film about the role of fathers in children’s lives. That film grossed over $35 million. Both films were produced by Sherwood Pictures, a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church, where Bevel now works.
Bevel and his wife, Lauana, have been married 19 years and have two children.
The Faith and Freedom Coalition, which promotes government that “lives within its needs,” hosts the annual event that features appearances by members of the Florida Legislature and Cabinet. This year, the prayer breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St. in Tallahassee.
