Susannah Randolph has won the endorsement for election in Congressional District 9 of a key congressional figure in the abortion rights community with an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo.
DeGette, who has served in Congress since 1997, is co-chair of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus.
Randolph is in a five-way battle for the Democratic nomination in Orlando-based CD 9, with state Sen. Darren Soto, Dr. Dena Minning, Valleri Crabtree and former state Rep. Ricardo Rangel.
Two Republicans are running in the Democratic-leaning district, Wayne Liebnitzky and Wanda Rentas.
They all are seeking to succeed incumbent U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlanado, who is running for the U.S. Senate.
“With the rights of women under fire every day, Susannah is the best candidate in the primary to stand strong in the fight to defend women from injustice,” DeGette stated in a news release issued by the Randolph campaign.
Earlier, Randolph won the endorsement of the National Organization for Women, which cited her history of fighting for reproductive rights, wage equality and affordable quality child care.
