Gov. Rick Scott is making a pitch for hospital transparency legislation in a new digital advertisement.
The 15-second ad is paid for by Let’s Get to Work, the political committee supporting Scott. In the spot, Scott says he’s asking every Florida hospital to be upfront about costs.
“Let’s reform our hospitals and make costs transparent,” the Naples Republican says in the advertisement.
Scott, a former health-care executive, has been pushing lawmakers to support legislation to make hospital pricing more transparent for months.
In May, he created the Commission on Healthcare and Hospital Funding to look at ways government spending on health care can be more efficient. The board heard from Floridians who reported price gouging, and Scott has said his proposal would attempt to put a stop to that.
“It’s wrong that our hospital industry doesn’t tell us what things cost,” the governor said during a speech at the American Enterprise Institute in January. “It’s not fair to patients.”
The hospital reform advertisement is just the latest in a series of ads sponsored by Let’s Get to Work in recent weeks. The committee also released an advertisement before the beginning of the 2016 legislative session to support the governor’s $1 billion tax cut proposal.
The new ad is set to begin airing Monday and Tuesday across the state.
