Dan Bongino endorses Ron DeSantis for Senate

Dan-Bongino

An active day for the Ron DeSantis press shop continued on Thursday evening, with the GOP Senate campaign trumpeting the endorsement of Dan Bongino.

Bongino, who lost general elections in Maryland during the past two cycles, 2012 for Senate and 2014 for House, noted in a statement put out by the DeSantis team that he will “not be running for Florida’s vacant Senate Seat,” as there is a “superb candidate” (DeSantis) already in the race.

Bongino moved to Florida in 2015; at that point, a Washington Post article suggested that it was for political reasons.

Bongino extolled DeSantis, saying that “he will not only talk the talk about the critical importance of preserving the liberties we have, and fighting to win back the liberties we are losing, but he will also walk the walk and fight the fights.”

No specificity was provided about which liberties are being lost, or which ones are in need of preservation.

“Walking away wasn’t an easy decision,” Bongino added, though it is uncertain from what he was walking away.

The timing of this endorsement seems designed to blunt the emerging campaign of Carlos Beruff, who DeSantis’ team called a “Charlie Crist Republican” earlier in the day.
