Turnout in Duval County shows big GOP edge, Democrat enthusiasm gap

Worth noting about early voting trends in Duval County in 2016: The GOP has a huge edge thus far, despite there being 21,000 more Democrats than Republicans in the county.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, 29,862 Republican votes had been tallied, versus just 24,582 on the Democratic side. That advantage was in absentee ballots. Early votes, traditionally where Democrats close the gap, had a slight GOP advantage as of latest tally.

A look at locations for Early Voting in Duval County reveals trends that illustrate a Democratic enthusiasm gap in areas where Republicans outnumber Democrats..

Places such as Mandarin, South Mandarin, Southeast, and Pablo Creek – Republican strongholds – are seeing the most buoyant turnout.

Gateway and Legends, two traditional hotbeds of Democratic voting, have gone cold so far in early voting.

Though there is still a weekend between now and next Tuesday, worth watching will be how hot or not Democratic turnout is in traditional strongholds.
