The rhetoric may have been tempered Thursday night during a debate, but Friday in West Palm Beach saw Marco Rubio contend Donald Trump was “anti-Israeli” in his positions regarding the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reports Foreign Policy.
Trump, said Rubio, “has said that on the issue of Palestinians and Israelis he will not take a side. Let me be abundantly clear: When I am president, we are going to take a side, and we are going to be on Israel’s side. As I said last night, Mr. Trump perhaps does not understand that his position is in fact anti-Israeli.”
Rubio also decried Trump’s belief that a deal can be negotiated, saying that “forcing Israel to the negotiating table, which apparently Donald Trump intends to do, only further weakens Israel.”
Thursday night’s debate saw Rubio exploiting Trump on his “flexibility” regarding an issue that is non-negotiable for Rubio and core supporters.
“Every time that Israel has turned over territory … it is used as a launching pad to attack Israel,” Rubio said. And negotiating is a no-go because the Palestinian Authority, in concert with Hamas, is “not interested in a serious deal.”
