Democratic candidate Sean Shaw said in a memo to supporters he’s “truly humbled” by early fundraising returns in his bid for an open HD 61 seat based in Tampa.
“In just 72 hours, you’ve given more than $5,000,” said Shaw. “Because of your response, we’re already putting together our team and building the GOTV operation that will win here.”
The Princeton graduate and former Insurance Consumer Advocate under CFO Alex Sink is hoping his third crack at the House will be a winner. Shaw ran in Rep. Alan Williams‘ Tallahassee-based HD 8 back in 2008 and in HD 61 in 2014. So far no other candidate has filed in the east Tampa seat, left vacant when Rep. Ed Narain announced a run for state Senate.
“With the election more than 5 months away, there’s lots of work to do,” said Shaw, referring to the August Democratic primary that will determine the winner in the majority-minority seat. “One way we can make sure our volunteers have all the resources they need is with ongoing donations. Even $25 or $50 a month can have a huge impact. That’s why we’re launching our ‘Sustain Team Shaw’ fundraising drive.”
“Any recurring monthly donation as part of this effort will go directly towards our GOTV operation,” said Shaw, using common political shorthand for “get out the vote.”
“We’re going to make some decisions in the next few weeks about our field operation. By helping us now, you’re taking a big step towards our victory,” Shaw concluded. “Thank you.”
