HD 11 candidates Cord Byrd, Sheri Treadwell fined by Florida Department of State

Campaign finance filing deadlines are real. And missing deadlines, as HD 11 Republicans Cord Byrd and Sheri Treadwell found out, has consequences.

Byrd and Treadwell each received letters from Ken Detzner recently for late filings… and fines were included.

Byrd was 8 days late in March and was fined $693.75. Treadwell was a day late in April 2015, and she was fined $50 for that.

Treadwell, running neck and neck with Donnie Horner in fundraising, wasn’t hurt by a lost $50. And, as she noted in comment, the money came from his personal account.

“Florida law requires that fines be paid “only from personal funds of the candidate.”  Fla. Stat. 106.07(8)(a),” said the former Duval Supervisor of Elections employee. “So, my campaign did not lose any money over the filing mistake made 12 months ago.  My 11 subsequent filings have been flawless.”

Byrd, however, has lagged behind the two leaders. As of his February report, he had under $25,000 on hand. In that context, $693.75 is actually real money.
