Orlando Republican candidate Dean Asher has received the endorsement of state Sen. Travis Hutson in Asher’s quest to be elected in the Orlando-based Senate District 13.

Asher, a real estate professional, is the lone Republican seeking to succeed term-limited state Sen. Andy Gardiner in the district, which covers much of northern and eastern Orange County. Gardiner goes out as president of the Florida Senate.

However there are several Democrats seeking the seat, including former state Reps. Linda Stewart and Mike Clelland, and former Orange County School Board member Rick Roach.

“Dean and I share the pro-business, problem-solving mindset that we need more of in the Florida Senate,” Hutson stated in a news release issued by Asher’s campaign. “He is the leader Central Florida must elect to promote economic development and ensure the region is on the right path moving forward. I look forward to serving alongside my friend Dean in the Florida Senate next year.”

In the release, Asher responded, “I am honored to have Senator Hutson endorse my candidacy for Florida Senate District 13. His proven leadership and dedication to the business community aligns with the issues that are important to me. The citizens of Northeast Florida are fortunate to have a dedicated leader that cares so deeply about the issues that affect their values as well as all Floridians.”
