Chris Sprowls is busting into the national spotlight.
GOPAC, a political committee that aims to build a “healthy roster of prepared and tested Republican leaders ready to run for higher office,” named Sprowls one the 2016 Class of Emerging Leaders.
The annual list recognizes legislators for their potential and ability to impact their state. The Emerging Leaders program is a yearlong initiative to coach lawmakers on how to be effective legislative leaders.
“Leaders who can successfully promote conservative principles and ideas are essential to advancing limited, effective government,” said David Avella, chairman of GOPAC, in a statement. “Our 2016 Class of Emerging Leaders exemplifies the promising state lawmakers who will lead in their legislative chamber and/or run for higher office. Their inclusion in our programs will provide them with guidance and support to be effective legislative and political leaders.”
First elected in 2014, Sprowls appeared to clinch the 2021-22 Florida House Speaker race in March after two more Republicans switched their support to Sprowls.
Since taking office, the 32-year-old Palm Harbor Republican has quickly ascended into a leadership role. He has become one of the go-to Republican lawmakers when it comes to complicated policy proposals.
The 2016 Class of Emerging Leaders is expected to participate in the annual Emerging Leaders Summit. This year’s summit will take place in Nashville later this summer.
