Sources: Jay Fant, Aaron Bean looking at CD 4 run
Rep. Jay Fant

The narrative that seems to be emerging in the Congressional District 4 race has John Rutherford as the presumptive GOP nominee to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, especially with John Delaney out of the race.

However, it’s not a done deal yet.

Multiple sources say that Jay Fant is considering a run. The first-term Jacksonville state representative may seem like an unlikely choice, given his light record of accomplishment in Tallahassee, but family money gives Fant the ability to self-finance into the seven figures should he want to make that move.

Fant, of course, would face a name recognition campaign. And would be going against the deepest pockets and the strongest political team in the city.

If Fant were to run, that would open up HD 15 to a new candidate, and the Ortega/Avondale area of Jacksonville has no shortage of possibilities, including such as Jacksonville City Council President Greg Anderson, and others.

Meanwhile, there is talk that State Senator Aaron Bean might be exploring a run. If that were to happen, sources say, Rutherford would run for Bean’s State Senate seat instead.

Bean would present what is being called a “20 year option” in DC, which Rutherford would not.

Michael Corrigan, Tax Collector, reportedly is getting good response, contradicting previous accounts we heard. As is Jerry Holland. More to come on those two later today.

This is a classic “sources say” scenario, of course, and more details will emerge sooner than later

Stay tuned for more developments.
