Tommy Hazouri backs Doyle Carter for Jax Council VP

In a move that will surprise the casual observer, Jacksonville City Councilman Tommy Hazouri pledged to support Doyle Carter for VP Friday.

Hazouri, a Democrat, had been mulling the choice between Carter, a Republican, and John Crescimbeni, a fellow At Large Democrat.

Crescimbeni, in a meeting with Hazouri and Councilwoman Katrina Brown last week, took hard questions about the media maelstrom after Brown, Hazouri, and other Council members voted to move stormwater funds to Safety Officer salaries, a move initiated by lobbying via text by Fire Union head Randy Wyse, which led to a lawsuit and a lot of Council handwringing about texts.

Hazouri’s pledge to support Carter gives Carter five pledges and Crescimbeni seven.

It should be noted that not every Council member will sign a pledge letter. Councilman Reggie Brown told FloridaPolitics.com on Tuesday that he was currently disinclined to sign on with a candidate.

Ten votes will be needed to secure the Vice Presidency for a candidate, during a May 24 vote of the full Council.
