Jayer Williamson is jumping into the state House District 3 race.
Williamson, a Santa Rosa County commissioner, announced on Facebook that he plans to run in 2016. Williamson had previously expected to run for the seat in 2018.
Williamson said Rep. Jeff Miller’s decision to retire from Congress “created a domino effect in Northwest Florida.” That domino effect, Williamson said, prompted him to transfer his 2018 campaign to this year.
Rep. Doug Broxson, the Midway Republican who currently represents HD 3, announced he planned to run for the new Florida Senate District 1, instead of running for re-election. Broxson will face Rep. Mike Hill, a Pensacola Beach insurance agent, in the primary.
That announcement came after Sen. Greg Evers, a Baker Republican, announced he would run for Congress, instead of state Senate.
“Our support has been tremendous for 2018 and with your help we have already raised over $55,000 that can be transferred to my 2016 campaign account,” said Williamson on his Facebook page. “But now, more than ever, I need your help.”
With about a month until petitions are due, Williamson called on supporters to sign up to volunteer to help with his campaign.
“I told my grandfather when I was 8 years old that I would be a member of the Florida House. With just over four months until the primary election, please help me make this dream become reality,” said Williamson. “It truly will be an honor, and a privilege to be your next State Representative! Please like & share, I can’t do it without you!”
