Hillary Clinton’s Florida effort to be led by former DSCC head Simone Ward

Simone Ward will direct Hillary Clinton‘s Florida campaign.

The 38-year-old Ward had been serving as the national political director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for the past year, the first African-American ever to do so.

According to a biography of her published in The Atlantic, Ward began her political year while still attending Oklahoma City University, where she spent a semester interning for Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign. Since then, she’s served stints at the Democratic National Committee, the White House, Mercer & Associates, EMILY’s List, Sen. Barbara Mikulski, and Planned Parenthood. In 2011, she returned to the DNC as acting national constituency director and director of women’s outreach.

The Clinton campaign named state directors for Colorado, Florida and New Hampshire on Friday — three crucial swing states for the 2016 presidential election.

Mike Vlacich, the Clinton campaign’s primary state director in New Hampshire, will now take on that same role in the general.

Emily Ruiz, Clinton’s Nevada caucus state director, will now serve as the chair of the Clinton campaign in Colorado.
