Patrick Rooney not running for re-election

PATRICK ROONEY

Patrick Rooney Jr. isn’t running for re-election this fall.

The Palm Beach Post reported on Friday that Rooney, a three-term state representative, wouldn’t seek a fourth term. According to the report, Rooney said he wanted to spend more time at home with his family.

Rooney is the grandson of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney and the brother of U.S. Rep Tom Rooney. First elected in 2010, the 52-year-old West Palm Beach Republican is the president of the Palm Beach Kennel Club.

Jay Rideout, a Palm Beach Gardens Democrat, filed to run for the House District 85 seat in March. He has raised $456 and spent $245 since announcing his run.

No Republican has thrown their hat in the race yet, but Rooney told the Palm Beach Post his legislative aide, Andrew Watt, is likely to run.
