NE FL LGBT Leadership PAC endorses for runoff, snubs Alvin Brown and Ken Jefferson

NE Florida LGBT Leadership PAC

The Northeast Florida LGBT Leadership PAC issued its list of endorsements for the May 19 Jacksonville runoff election. The PAC endorsed Democrats in every race, except three. The PAC passed on both Mayor Alvin Brown, Sheriff’s candidate Ken Jefferson, and a certain At Large Councilwoman.

In the At Large Group 1 race between Democrat Kim Daniels and Republican Anna Brosche, the group went with Brosche, who recently distanced herself from the language of the 2012 HRO, yet is still apparently better for the group than Daniels, a fundamentalist preacher who has said the 2012 bill, which she voted against, was a “very bad bill” supported by really mean people.

Meanwhile, in the Mayor race, the group offers no endorsement. Mayor Brown has not moved on extending anti-discrimination protections to the LGBT community, despite persistent rumors that an executive order offering limited protections was in the works. As well, the Mayor had a fairly epic confrontation with PAC members a few weeks back in Hemming Park, which led to a couple of key shakeups within the PAC leadership.

The group also made no endorsement in the Sheriff’s race.

Some familiar with PAC thinking assumed that there might be a pro forma endorsement of Mayor Brown despite his intractability on moving policy on civil rights for LGBT community members; obviously, that did not come to pass.

Beyond Brosche, the PAC endorsed no Republicans.
