The Orange County Classroom Teachers Association has thrown its support behind former Orange County School Board member Rick Roach in his drive to be elected to the Florida Senate in Orlando-based Senate District 13.
Roach’s campaign announced the support as his first major union endorsement. The teachers’ union also endorsed him when he ran for the school board.
Roach faces two former state representatives in a Democratic primary fight for the seat, Mike Clelland and Linda Stewart.
“Rick Roach has been a champion for teachers, students and public education for the last two decades that I have had the honor of being his friend and working with him,” Wendy Doromal, president of the teachers’ union, stated in a news release issued by Roach’s campaign. “For 16 years as a school board member, Rick was teachers’ and Orange CTA’s trusted ally.”
She then went on to cite his positions opposing high-stakes testing long before others.
“So many good things happen to our Florida citizens, especially our children, when we get education right,” Roach stated.
