Democratic candidates of Florida House Districts 47 and 48 will meet in debates June 7 in a forum sponsored by the Young Democrats of Orange County.
The debate, featuring four of the five Democrats running in those districts, will take place at the Barry University School of Law, 6441 E. Colonial Drive, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Former Florida State Rep. Karen Castor Dentel and Florida Trend Associate Editor Jason Garcia will moderate.
The Young Dems, who sponsored a Florida Senate candidates debate earlier this month, said they have received confirmations from House District 47 candidates Henry Lim and Clint Curtis, while Beth Tuura has sent her regrets.
Those candidates seek a chance to take on Republican incumbent Mike Miller of Orlando in a district covering parts of central and east Orlando and south-central Orange County.
In District 48, covering south Orange County, both Democrats, Alex Barrio and Amy Mercado, have confirmed.
“With the success of our State Senate Debate, the Young Democrats knew we could move forward and continue to host candidate debates which the community has been in dire need of,” Robert Walters, president of the YDOC, stated in a news release. “We want to ensure that the voters and our membership know who they are voting for and we feel like, since no one else is doing it, it is up to us to host these debates.”
