The first TV ad of the race to replace Ander Crenshaw in Florida’s 4th Congressional District is out; it’s called “Rawhide,” and it’s from Hans Tanzler.
As the title suggests, it has a cowboy movie feel.
It leads off with a Reward poster, with a rustic voiceover spotlighting “some bad guys in Washington,” including Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.
“They’ve put us in debt … weakened our military … left our borders unprotected,” continues the voiceover.
Then, as a shot of Tanzler riding horseback in a field with a rifle on his side plays, the pitch.
“We need a hero. A prosecutor. A business leader and job champion. A reformer who stood up for our farmers. Hans Tanzler.”
At the 16 second mark, Tanzler speaks: “Mr. Obama, you and your gang have made a mess in Washington. And I’ve got one message from We The People: Get out of our town.”
“There is no question that President Obama’s eight years in Washington have left us much weaker as a nation,” said Tanzler in a press release. “This ad focuses on the exploding debt and hollowed-out military that he is leaving behind and highlights the leadership experience that I’ll bring to Congress.”
The ad, we are told, is part of a “sustained ad buy strategy for the duration.”
Notable: the ad’s similarity to an ad run in the Alabama Agricultural Commissioner race in 2010.
Like Shakespeare said —or was it Roy Rogers? — “there’s nothing new under the sun”?
