The fundraising committee backing Chris Sprowls raised more than $120,000 in May, marking another strong fundraising month for the committee.
State records show Floridians for Economic Freedom raised $122,000 in May. Since February 2015, the committee has raised $332,000. State records show nearly 70 percent of those contributions were given in the past three months.
Sprowls appeared to clinch the 2021-22 speakership race in the final days of the 2016 Legislative Session. The Palm Harbor Republican has a significant lead in the vote count, and has been quickly embraced as the eventual House Speaker. That appears to have helped his fundraising committee’s coffers.
Between February 2015 and February 2016, Floridians for Economic Freedom raised $100,500. The largest one-month fundraising period in that period was this past January, when the committee reported it raised $59,500.
Since March 2016, Floridians for Economic Freedom raised $231,500. The May fundraising haul marks the largest one-month fundraising period for the organization to date.
Top donors in May include $25,000 donations from OD-EYEPAC and Gulf Coast Health Care, $10,000 donations from both Florida Blue and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and a $7,5000 donation from The Voice of Florida Business PAC.
The committee spent $4,000 in May. That sum included a $1,000 to Ross Spano’s House District 59 campaign and a $1,000 to Mike Mikurak’s Pinellas County Commission campaign.
Since February 2015, Floridians for Economic Freedom has spent $35,171. The committee has $296,828 cash on hand.
