DSCC hammers Marco Rubio in digital ad as he contemplates running again for his Senate seat

Marco Rubio says he will spend this weekend consulting with his family about running for again his U.S. Senate seat – and the Democratic Party appears more than ready to attack him if he does.

The Democratic Senate Senatorial Campaign Committee released a digital ad that is a sneak preview of the assault they’re prepared to deliver to the Florida Senator if indeed, he announces that he will run again for his seat this fall.

The ad revisits a major complaint Democrats used against Rubio earlier this year when he was still running for president – that he was AWOL in his day job. It features clips of Joe Scarborough and South Florida Sun-Sentinel editorial page editor Rosemary O’Hara hammering the senator for his missed votes in the Senate (though Rubio supporters note that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton missed a similar number of votes during their presidential run in 2007-2008).

If Rubio were to run, he’d be the heavy favorite to win the primary against his GOP opponents (several of whom may drop out if he gets back in), but a straight-up battle against likely Democratic nominee Patrick Murphy is hard to assess at this time.

“Marco Rubio has spent his term in the Senate not showing up for work, complaining about his job and when he did show up, taking dangerous votes like the one he cast to keep open the terrorist gun loophole,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “After a bruising 20 point loss to Donald Trump in the Florida Presidential primary, recent polls have shown again that Floridians just don’t like Marco Rubio, and this video makes it clear why. If Rubio decides to run for re-election, his long record of failing Florida voters will be impossible to defend.”
