Score one for Angela Corey and her re-election bid for state attorney.
On Friday, reports the Florida Times-Union, a suit challenging the validity of a write-in candidate, Kenny Leigh, whose entry closed the previously open primary in the 4th Circuit State Attorney race, was thrown out of court in Jacksonville.
Plaintiffs will appeal. But for now, it looks like the purpose of Leigh’s candidacy, engineered by Corey’s former campaign manager and lead consultant, has been accomplished.
The GOP primary in the Northeast Florida circuit is now restricted to Corey, Melissa Nelson, and Wes White.
FloridaPolitics.com reached out to Nelson and White for comments.
Nelson, via her spokesman Brian Hughes, had this reaction:
“Melissa Nelson is a constitutional conservative and lifelong Republican, and she’s excited to continue the conversation with fellow Republicans about her campaign to restore integrity and accountability to the state attorney’s office. We will let Angela Corey and her political handlers explain why they are afraid of talking to 4th circuit voters.”
White, when asked for reaction, simply said, “No.”
