Slots bill scores with final Jax Council committee

The proposed referendum allowing local gambling magnate bestbet to bring 2,000 slots, if approved by voters in a November vote, to their Arlington location, cleared the Jacksonville City Council Finance Committee Monday.

Tuesday, it was the Rules committee’s turn to push their green buttons in support.

In a unanimous Tuesday afternoon vote that had about as much drama as a Bazooka Joe comic, Rules approved the measure to allow a November referendum on slot machines.

If the Jacksonville City Council approves the referendum next Tuesday, and voters approve slots, and the whole thing passes muster on the state level, bestbet is poised to have the most slot machines of any location outside of Native American tribal property in Florida.

With no discussion whatsoever, the bill was approved without objection.
