More ads to be shot in State Attorney’s office soon?

A new ad from 4th Circuit State Attorney Angela Corey includes footage from inside the State Attorney’s office. And now a representative of another campaign wants equal time.

Brian Hughes of the Melissa Nelson campaign emailed Jackelyn Barnard, Corey’s spokesperson, Friday.

His intent: to film an ad in the State Attorney’s office, along the lines of Corey’s, which Barnard said was “the same parameters as for any other public building.”

Hughes wrote: “I have read that the State Attorney offices and facilities, at the address below, are available to be rented for the purpose of filming political television advertisements. This comes from a report that Ms. Corey and her consultant from the Victory Group filmed portions of her TV spot in a ceremonial courtroom and hallways at this address: STATE ATTORNEY’S OFFICE 4TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT 311 WEST MONROE STREET JACKSONVILLE FL 32202.

“I am interested in filming there as early as next week and want to ensure that I do so in full compliance of Jacksonville City Ordinance (Sec 350.305.) and any other relevant laws or regulations,” Hughes added, before asking “who to contact in the SAO to arrange the rental, and the fees associated with such an agreement?”

“Specifically,” Hughes added, “I am interested in renting the hallway from the attached image as depicted in SAO Corey’s new ad.”

Barnard wrote back, saying this was a possibility.

“We have reached out to the General Counsel’s office regarding this matter. Someone from Mr. Gabriel’s office will be getting back with you,” Barnard wrote.

Debbie Frick, Corey’s assistant, is responsible for scheduling the use of the “historic courtroom,” Barnard added, and is in a position to assist.

Hughes wrote Barnard back, seeking clarification.

“The report I read seemed to indicate there was already a policy to rent these facilities in accordance with city ordinances. So, while I appreciate the inquiry to the General Counsel, all I really need is the procedure and costs for doing the exact same thing that Ms. Corey and her consultant Adam Goodman of the Victory Group did when they filmed in SAO offices. (Hopefully, at the same cost Ms. Corey campaign paid.)”

Hughes reiterated that his “hope is to film next week.”

“Is there availability any day next week? If so, how much do I pay and who do I make the check out to? In addition to the historic courtroom, I am seeking access to the hallway in the image I sent earlier (and can resend if you need me to).”

Corey’s latest financial report, which would reflect resources for the ad if committed before May 24, was not online as of 1:11 p.m. Friday.
