The West Central Florida Police Benevolent Association is endorsing Jackie Toledo in the House District 60 contest.
“This endorsement means more to me than I can express,” Toledo said in a statement issued Monday. “Our law enforcement officers are heroes who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. Their jobs are dangerous, especially in the current environment in our country. I am thankful for their commitment to our community and honored and humbled by their endorsement.”
Toledo, a Tampa-based civil engineer who narrowly lost a bid for a Tampa City Council seat a year ago, is running against Rebecca Smith, a Tampa businesswoman who has earned more endorsements and raised more money (much from herself) in the Republican race for the seat, currently held by fellow Republican Dana Young.
In their endorsement letter, the West Central Florida PBA say they have committed to asking their members, their families and friends, and all citizens in the district to cast their ballots in support of Toledo.
The winner of the Aug. 30 GOP primary will take on Democrat David Singer in November. The district includes all of South Tampa, much of south Hillsborough County, and Town N Country.
