Carlos Beruff calls out Marco Rubio for not supporting Donald Trump in new ad

Carlos Beruff is taking aim at Marco Rubio, this time questioning why the Miami Republican isn’t backing Donald Trump.

“Why does Marco Rubio refuse to support Donald Trump?” a female announcer is heard saying in the 30-second spot. “Is it just sour grapes because Florida chose Trump instead of Rubio? Or is it because Trump opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants, while Rubio supports amnesty? Or is because Trump wants a temporary ban on Middle Eastern immigrants, while Rubio disagrees? Or maybe it’s because Trump wants to secure our borders.”

The ad, called “Why,” then shows Beruff, who says he supports Trump and will “help him secure our borders.”

While some Republicans have tried to distance themselves from Trump, Beruff has been gravitating toward him. He has said he supports securing the borders, and in April said he thought there should be a ban on immigration from Middle Eastern countries.

Rubio’s position on immigration has been a target for opponents in the past. He was part of the so-called Gang of Eight, a group of lawmakers who worked on a 2013 immigration bill, which included, among other things, a pathway to citizenship.

He backed away from that proposal, but has called for piecemeal reform, including securing the border.

And while Rubio may not be a huge fan of Trump, he has said he plans to support the Republican nominee. In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Rubio said he “signed a pledge, put my name on it, and said I would support the Republican nominee and that’s what I intend to do.”

The Republican primary is Aug. 30.
