Marco Rubio’s Northeast Florida leadership team shows institutional strength

Rubio Senate

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio has been rolling out his leadership teams around the state this week, and Thursday was the Jacksonville/Gainesville markets’ turn.

Ahead of an Aug. 30 challenge from Manatee homebuilder Carlos Beruff, Rubio’s team is intending to flash all of the institutional support a popular incumbent typically would have.

Prominent names include Congressmen Ron DeSantis and Ander Crenshaw; State Sens. Aaron Bean and Travis Hutson; and State Reps. Janet AdkinsTravis CummingsCharles McBurneyElizabeth PorterPaul Renner, and Cyndi Stevenson.

Local leaders from Jacksonville, including Mayor Lenny Curry, Sheriff Mike Williams, and Jacksonville City Councilman Sam Newby also back Rubio’s re-election bid.

Curry was a very enthusiastic supporter of Rubio’s presidential bid, and though he’s since become comfortable with the GOP nominee for president, he still backs his longtime friend for re-election.

In fact, Curry was very vocal in urging Sen. Rubio to run for re-election after he exited the presidential race.

In addition to these aforementioned leaders, each county has its own leadership team, mostly comprised of reliable party regulars and officers.
