Florida Times-Union evacuates facility, will produce print edition remotely

Florida Times-Union

On Thursday, the Florida Times-Union announced it would comply with evacuation orders that apply to its riverfront property, using assets of other Morris Communications papers to produce the print product.

The Savannah Morning News will print the paper; The Augusta Chronicle will “host Times-Union designers, editors and digital producers in the event of power outages in the Jacksonville area,” the T-U reports.

Power outages are considered to be a strong possibility on Friday.

Papers will be delivered to print subscribers “as soon as conditions allow for safe delivery.”

Electronic editions are unaffected, and Jacksonville.com dropped the paywall for the duration of the storm.

Jacksonville is facing a “100-year storm,” according to Mayor Lenny Curry, and storm surge downtown could be as high as nine feet.

There are 456,000 people under an evacuation order as of Thursday afternoon.

Worth watching: as of June, the Florida Times-Union building was offered “for sale or redevelopment.”

Will this storm impact the future of this property?
