Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings is kicking off his 2018 Orange County mayoral campaign fundraising with a fundraiser Tuesday night that features Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and scores of others on the host committee.
The fundraiser, set for the Dubsdread Golf Course ballroom, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Demings, a Democrat, is the sole major candidate who has filed for the race go succeed term-limited Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, though Orange County Commissioner Pete Clarke, a Republican, said last week he is 99.9 percent certain he will run. The office is non-partisan.
Among those listed as on Demings’ host committee for Tuesday night’s event, besides Dyer, are state Sens. Randolph Bracy and Victor Torres; state Reps. Bruce Antone, Kamia Brown, Amy Mercado, and Carlos Smith; Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph; former state Reps. Karen Castor Dentel and Mark Pafford; Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell; former Orange County Chair Linda Chapin; former Orange County Commissioner Scott Boyd; Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn; Orlando City Commissioners Sam Ings, Tony Ortiz, and Patty Sheehan; Orlando attorney John Morgan, longtime civil rights activist Levon Wright Bracy; and activist Susannah Randolph.
