Sarasota Republican Sen. Greg Steube is holding a fundraiser April 12 for his campaign to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney in Florida’s 17th Congressional District.

The campaign fundraiser will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Aragon Room of The Biltmore in Coral Gables, 1200 Anastasia Avenue.

The host committee listed in the invitation includes more than a dozen names. Among those listed are Senate President Designate Bill Galvano, Miami Republican Sen. Anitere Flores, Reps. Michael Bileca and Manny Diaz, as well as Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.

Those interested in attending the fundraiser can send an RSVP to Kelly Dowd at [email protected].

Last week, Steube’s campaign announced another fundraiser will be held May 2 in Sarasota.

Steube, currently in his first term as a state Senator, was the first major Republican to announce he would seek the CD 17 seat being given up by Rooney. Sarasota Republican Rep. Julio Gonzalez joined him in the primary race shortly after the 2018 Legislative Session.

When he announced his bid, Steube put out a long list of early backers, including Senate President Joe Negron, Galvano, Senate Majority Leader Wilton Simpson, Naples Sen. Kathleen Passidomo, Lakeland Sen. Kelli Stargel as well as the sheriffs of Charlotte, Highlands, Hardee, Okeechobee and Glades counties.

Steube’s announcement was one of many dominos to fall after Rooney said he would leave congress. So far, Republican state Rep. Joe Gruters has announced he would run for Steube’s Senate seat, and four candidates have filed for Gonzalez’ House seat.

The invite to Steube’s fundraiser is below.
