Chris Sprowls kicking-off re-election Thursday

Republican Rep. Chris Sprowls is ramping up his re-election campaign for Pinellas-based House District 65 with a Thursday fundraiser in Palm Harbor.

The campaign kickoff event will be held at Catcher in the Rye, 917 11th St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Attendees can RSVP by sending a note to Brant Bartlett at [email protected] or by visiting the Facebook event listing.

The host committee includes several dozen names, many of them current or former elected officials in Pinellas County.

Standouts on the extensive list are Clerk of the Court Ken Burke, Public Defender Bob Dillinger, lobbyist and former state Rep. Pete Dunbar, Dunedin Commissioner Heather Gracy, Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, State Attorney Bernie McCabe, Tarpon Springs Commissioner Ria Sieber, former Tarpon Springs Commissioner Townsend Tarapani and Dunedin Vice Mayor John Tornga.

Sprowls is running for a third term in HD 65, which covers Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, Dunedin and part of Clearwater in northern Pinellas County. It is a safe Republican seat.

The 34-year-old attorney is in line to succeed Miami Republican Rep. Jose Oliva as House Speaker following the 2020 elections. So far, only Democrat Alex Toth has filed to challenge him in the 2018 cycle.

Ahead of the kickoff, Sprowls released a campaign video promoting unity in his north Pinellas community and saying residents’ best days are still in front of them.

The invite is below.
