Gov. Rick Scott is naming Matthew Caldwell to the Broward College District Board of Trustees.
Caldwell, the 38-year-old president and CEO of the Florida Panthers, is set to serve on the board for a term ending May 31, 2022.
The Board is made up of five members from the Broward community to help lead Broward College and direct its activities. The members are appointed to the Board by the governor. Caldwell is set to succeed current member John Benz, who also works as a CEO in the health care industry.
Caldwell earned his bachelor’s degree from West Point. He then went on to receive a J.D. and M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
Caldwell joined the Panthers in 2013 after new ownership took over. He had previously served in the army for five years, spending time in Iraq and Kosovo. Caldwell worked as the chief operating officer for the Panthers before moving to his current position as president and CEO in 2016.
The 38-year-old also serves on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club and as a council member for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance CEO Council. The latter group works to bring corporate headquarters to the Fort Lauderdale and Broward County area.
Caldwell’s appointed will become official after he is confirmed by the Florida Senate.
