Lee Mangold picks up endorsements from STEM professionals’ group

Lee Mangold

Democratic House of Representatives candidate Lee Mangold has received the endorsement from a group representing science and technology professionals, his campaign announced.

Mangold, a cyber security consultant with a doctorate in computer and information security, has received the endorsement of the 314 Action Political Action Committee in Florida’s House District 28 in Seminole County.

The committee 314 Action, named after the first three digits in the mathmatical term pi, declares on its website that it goals are to “electing more STEM candidates to office, advocating for evidence-based policy solutions to issues like climate change, and fighting the [President Donald] Trump administration’s attacks on science.”

To date it has only backed Democrats, according to the Center for Responsive Politics’ OpenSecrets website. The committee has spent just under $2 million so far in this election cycle.

Mangold, of Casselberry, faces Republican David Smith of Winter Springs in the election to fill the seat opening up because Republican incumbent state Rep. Jason Brodeur is not seeking re-election. Smith also is in the computer science field, as a consultant in simulation and modeling business.
