Osceola County Commissioner Fred Hawkins is the latest candidate to enter the House District 42 race.
“I want to bring my passion for quality education, public safety and protecting our natural resources to state government,” he said in an announcement Friday. “Florida’s best days are ahead of us. I will bring principled leadership to Tallahassee to ensure every Florida family can realize the American Dream.”
Hawkins, a St. Cloud resident who has served on the Osceola County board for the past 10 years, is seeking the seat currently held by term-limited state Rep. Mike La Rosa.
HD 42 is a mostly rural area covering Eastern Osceola County. As a county commissioner, Hawkins has represented communities of St. Cloud, Harmony and the Narcoossee Corridor.
As President/CEO of the Osceola Education Foundation, Hawkins leads a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to teachers, scholarships to students and funds classroom programs to offer educational opportunities for Osceola schoolchildren.
“There is nothing more rewarding than helping our young people reach their potential!” he said.
Hawkins also serves as Osceola’s representative on the Board of Directors of the Central Florida Expressway Authority, the Orlando Economic Partnership, the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce and St. Cloud Main Street.
He lives in St. Cloud with his wife Tiffany, and daughter Kendrie.
