Stephanie Murphy announces re-election campaign

Stephanie Murphy

Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy announced Tuesday she is filing to run for re-election to a third term to represent Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

Murphy, of Winter Park, was first elected in 2016 in a close and upset victory to represent CD 7 covering Seminole County and north and central Orange County, and was fairly easily re-elected last fall.

“It’s official: I’m running for re-election!” she tweeted Tuesday afternoon from her unofficial Twitter account. “I want to keep fighting for you in Congress and for jobs, security, and opportunity for all Americans. We’ve accomplished so much together, but the fight for the future is far from over.”

She has drawn a Republican opponent, 23-year-old Armani Salado of Winter Springs.
