Republican Rep. David Smith’s next fundraiser will feature several special guests, including future House Speaker Chris Sprowls.
Sprowls, who is next in line for House Speaker, is atop the guest list. The invitation lists more than 30 other individuals on the host committee.
Among them are state Sen. David Simmons, Keiser University Chancellor Belinda Keiser and former state Rep. Jason Brodeur, who is running to succeed Simmons in the Senate next year.
The event will be held Aug. 13 in Orlando at the University Club, 150 East Central Blvd., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The suggested donation to attend is $500.
Smith was elected to House District 28 in 2018, defeating Democratic nominee Lee Mangold by 2 points on Election Day.
The 2020 race could end up being a rematch — currently, Smith and Mangold are the only two candidates running for the job.
Smith held a massive fundraising lead in the 2018 cycle and is continuing the trend in 2020. As of June 30, he had $42,000 on hand in his campaign account. He also has a political committee, Friends of David Smith, though it hasn’t reported any fundraising activity.
Mangold, meanwhile, has about $8,800 in the bank.
HD 28 covers part of northeastern Seminole County including Sanford, Winter Springs, Casselberry and Oviedo. They will go head-to-head in the Nov. 6 general election. It has a GOP lean.
