State Rep. Jason Fischer, a second-term Republican representing HD 16 on Jacksonville’s Southside, will continue his strong fundraising this week.
On Wednesday, Fischer will have an “evening reception” in the Ortega Room of the tony River Club, and the event hosts are a group of well known names.
Husein Cumber, the connected husband of City Councilwoman Le’Anna Cumber, and Ali and Jamie Shelton are event hosts.
The “honorary co-host” category includes Sens. Travis Hutson and Aaron Bean and four Republican state House members: Paul Renner, Cord Byrd, Clay Yarborough, and Wyman Duggan.
The donor class is well-represented also: John Baker, Ed Burr, Gary Chartrand, and Peter Rummel all are billed as “co-hosts,” along with the occasional tireless public servant, such as JEA CEO Aaron Zahn.
Five Republican City Council members are on the host committee also.
Fischer is eyeing a change on how schools are governed in Duval County, and plans to bring a local bill that would allow voters to decide on whether to elect the Superintendent going forward.
Based on the buy-in from his fellow elected officials, that local bill has some support.
Fischer’s HD 16 is a safely Republican seat: of its 120,186 registered voters, over 55,000 are Republican registrants.
He defeated, by 17 points, a general election opponent in 2018. Democrat Ken Organes was outraised and could not get traction against the established incumbent.
He currently has roughly $25,000 in his campaign account, and $35,000 in his Conservative Solutions for Jacksonville political committee.
