Miami Beach Commission candidate David Richardson is dubbing himself “The Budget Guy” in a new ad as he campaigns for the Group VI seat in November.
The 30-second ad features two Richardson supporters as they discuss the upcoming election.
“It’s election season, Sunny,” says Liz Regalado, Board Chair of SAVE.
“Yes,” Sunny replies.
“Have you decided who to support?”
“Well, in Group 6, I’m voting for ‘The Budget Guy.'”
“Who?”
“‘The Budget Guy,’ David Richardson,” Sunny explains.
“David Richardson? He’s great, a forensic auditor and CPA, always looking out for our community.”
“Right.”
The ad then cuts to Richardson, who closes out the ad by speaking to the camera.
“I’m David Richardson. I’m ‘The Budget Guy.’ As your City Commissioner, I’ll be a strong voice for accountability and transparency. I humbly ask for your vote on Nov. 5.”
Also competing for the Group VI seat are Adrian Gonzalez, Mohammed R. Islam and Blake Young.
Earlier this month, Richardson was endorsed by Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, as well as Miami Beach Commissioners John Alemán and Joy Malakoff.
Richardson, who formerly represented House District 113, last competed in the 2018 Democratic primary for the then-open seat in Florida’s 27th Congressional District.
He was defeated by Donna Shalala by just 5 percentage points. Shalala went on to take the seat in the general.
