The Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates (FAPPA) is backing Daniella Levine Cava in the 2020 Miami-Dade mayoral contest.
Levine Cava currently represents District 8 on the Miami-Dade County Commission. She is one of seven candidates who qualified for the mayoral race. FAPPA is an advocacy group representing Florida’s two Planned Parenthood affiliates.
“Through her decades of service to the community, Daniella Levine Cava has stood as a strong supporter of reproductive health rights and of improving residents’ overall access to health care,” FAPPA Chair Lillian Tamayo said.
“We know that she will continue to be a dedicated health advocate as Miami-Dade Mayor and we stand behind her and her campaign to make history as the first Madame Mayor of Miami-Dade.”
Levine Cava would indeed be the first woman Mayor elected in the county’s history, should she be successful. She’s also recently added endorsements from LGBTQ advocacy group Equality Florida Action PAC and the Communications Workers of America.
“I’m truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood affiliates,” Levine Cava said.
“The neighborhood health centers that they advocate for provide preventive health care to thousands of women, men, and young individuals in places underserved by other health care facilities. In these times of crisis, we see just how much our people need access to health care: for those who are not covered by insurance and who cannot afford the care they need.
“I will continue to defend and promote the expansion of health care that covers everyone because health care is a human right, and I’m proud to have these dedicated advocates behind me.”
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Giménez is term-limited, making the race an open one.
Levine Cava is competing against Carlos Antonio De Armas, entrepreneur Monique Nicole Barley, current County Commissioners Esteban Bovo and Xavier Suarez, real estate agent Ludmilla Domond and former County Mayor Alex Penelas.
