The Winter Park lawyer plans to contrast his rags-to-riches story with a former defense contractor under investigation.

Winter Park Democrat Noah Widmann just launched a campaign to unseat U.S. Rep. Cory Mills in Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

The lawyer released a video announcing his candidacy that goes after Mills over a series of recent scandals. It starts with Widmann’s voice saying of Mills that “he’s the most corrupt Congressman in America, and that’s saying a lot right now.”

It goes on to newscasters saying Mills, a New Smyrna Beach Republican, was “under investigation for an assault” and “accused of assaulting a 27-year-old woman,” adding that he is “under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for alleged financial violations.”

“When he’s not getting investigated by the police for assault or for making millions selling weapons to foreign nations, he’s busy cutting our Social Security and Medicare,” Widmann says in the ad. “People here in Central Florida need somebody who really represents us.”

He referenced a recent investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department after Sarah Raviani, a woman living in the same apartment, reported an assault by Mills. The Congressman denied any wrongdoing and Raviani later said there was no physical altercation between the two.

Widmann also noted an ongoing House Ethics investigation of whether Mills, a former defense contractor, “entered into, held, or enjoyed contracts with federal agencies while serving in Congress.”

Then Widmann appears to offer his own biography in contrast. He discusses rising from a teenage father working in restaurants to becoming a paramedic in Marion County before eventually attending law school.

“That’s where I come in. I’m Noah Widmann, the guy running against Cory Mills. I was raised by a disabled single mom. Growing up, we didn’t always know where our next meal was going to come from,” Widmann says.

“After becoming a teenage dad, I was flipping burgers at Sonic, bagging groceries at Publix, and working nights for the fire department, making nine bucks an hour — whatever it took to support my daughter and put myself through college. As an EMT, I saw firsthand how broken our health care system is — people with life-threatening injuries less worried about the cost of their care than getting the care that they needed.”

Widmann is now an associate at Fried Frank, based in Washington.

“Now I’m a lawyer, fighting people to get the benefits they depend on to survive,” he said. “With your help, I’ll beat Cory Mills. And when I do, I’ll fight every day for working people and against the corrupt politicians and special interests. And I’ll focus on building an economy that works for all of us.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced last month that it would add Mills to its list of Republican-held “Districts in Play.” Mills won election in 2022, flipping a seat redrawn during redistricting following the retirement of Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy.

Multiple Democrats also filed before Widmann’s announcement. That includes Jennifer Adams, who challenged Mills unsuccessfully in 2024, and Marialana Kinter, a research assistant with Veterans to Naval Careers.
