Jeb Bush brings his all-but-certain presidential campaign to Tampa Bay this week, in the form of a high-profile fundraiser supporting the Right to Rise Super PAC.
The $1,000-a-ticket event is set for Tuesday at the Grand Hyatt, 2900 Bayport Drive. A VIP Reception begins at 5 p.m.; the general reception starts at 5:30 p.m.
The former Florida governor is currently on a fundraising tear, with 60 mega-money fundraisers scheduled over the next few months. The goal is to raise cash – and possibly scare off the GOP presidential competition – as he moves closer announcing a 2016 White House run, known as the worst kept secret in American politics.
Prominent GOP benefactors from both sides of Tampa Bay are on the Bush host committee.
Listed co-chairs (so far) include former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker and his current boss, Edwards Group CEO Bill Edwards. Also attending are former Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford, as well as Betty and Ambassador Mel Sembler, considered two of the top GOP bundlers in the state. Special guests include Attorney General Pam Bondi, state Sens. Jeff Brandes, Jack Latvala and Wilton Simpson and South Tampa state Rep. Dana Young.
A seat with elite Tampa Republicans – as well as a prospective presidential candidate – is not cheap. Co-chairing the reception is $25K; a co-hosting spot is $5,000.
Just attending the event will set supporters back a cool grand.
For those unable to attend, the invite includes a contributor pledge form, for both individuals and corporations. Contractors working with the federal government must consult counsel prior to contributing to Right to Rise Super PAC.
