Gov. Rick Scott announced Sunday that he will be traveling overseas this week to visit with Florida troops stationed in Kuwait.
“It is an honor to celebrate our country’s Independence Day with the brave men and women who are currently serving and protecting our freedom,” said Scott in a statement.
The governor will stop at Camp Arifjan and Camp Buehring, which house troops from the Florida National Guard and Army Reserves.
“I look forward to spending time with our troops and making sure they know that Floridians appreciate their service to our country.”
To do so, Scott’s office says he plans to bring the troops some “reminders of home.”
Scott added, “As a Navy veteran, and the son of a World War II veteran, I know how important it is to support our veterans, active duty military and their families, which is why I’ll never stop fighting to make sure Florida is the most military and veteran-friendly state in the nation.”
The governor pointed to the $180 million in this year’s state budget for military and veteran spending. Nearly $2.5 million of that is allocated to help veterans get hired after returning from service overseas.
Scott’s office said they will release a more detailed schedule for his visit to Kuwait in the coming days.
