On the Facebook page of Bill Bishop for Mayor, there is a short message: “Join Bill Bishop for a special announcement tomorrow at 3pm on the steps of City Hall at the beautiful St James Building on Hemming Plaza.”
There are, of course, three potential outcomes, all of which come with attendant risk. If Bishop endorses Mayor Alvin Brown, that would be seen by GOP insiders as a final breach with the Republican party structure locally. If Bishop endorses Lenny Curry, it would be a move consistent with party identification, but one that would leave him open to criticism from the coalition of Urban Core white liberals who supported him so vocally in the last few months. And, of course, he could stand down and not endorse either candidate.
Those who are most familiar with the Bishop campaign thinking are not talking. However, tomorrow afternoon, the former candidate will be. And we will be there covering it of course, getting quotes from Bishop and all other relevant parties in this discussion, which has the potential to alter the topography of the runoff election.
