State Sen. Darren Soto has said the first major fundraiser for his bid to be the next congressman from the 9th District will be held on Sept. 3 in downtown Orlando.
“Our campaign will be the most inclusive, most diverse, and most energetic in this race,” Soto said in prepared statement “Our first fundraiser will demonstrate that we have the broad support and grassroots momentum that it takes to win. I am excited about the surge of support for our campaign because of my record and my ideas for the future. We need a member of Congress, who is focused on bringing more jobs to the area, protecting the environment, taking care of our veterans, and protecting social security and medicare. I’ll be focused on those issues.”
Headlining the host committee is state Senate Democratic Leader Arthenia Joyner, fellow Orlando state Sen. Geraldine Thompson, state Rep. Randolph Bracy, Orlando City Commissioner Sam Ings, and many others.
Soto is vying for the seat being vacated by Alan Grayson for his U.S. Senate bid. His opponents in what is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic congressional primaries in the country, include Grayson’s former district director Susannah Randolph, Dr. Dena Minning, former state Rep. Ricardo Rangel, and Valleri Crabtree.
