Mike McLean announced his candidacy for Seminole County Clerk of Courts on Tuesday morning.
“The Clerk of Courts affects all of Seminole County when they need a marriage license, have a legal issue, pay a traffic ticket and much more,” said McLean, a former Seminole County commissioner.
“This should be a department that works to assist our citizens and not be a place of frustration.”
McLean cites a large technology gap as one frequent source of frustration at Clerk of Courts’ offices, particularly the inability to pay fees with a credit or debit card. In addition, citizens can’t obtain a passport at the Seminole County Clerk of Courts, unlike other clerks’ offices in Central Florida.
“A major part of my life is giving back to the community where I have raised my family and operated a successful business,” McLean said. “I believe there is a need for someone who has run a consumer-oriented business to lead this organization into the future.”
In addition to his previous experience in public office, McLean is owner of the McLean Insurance Group. He also has an extensive history with various regional charities and public service groups.
McClain joins Grant Maloy and Sammy Gibson in the race. It is unclear whether incumbent Mary Ann Morse will run for re-election.
