Newly filed campaign finance reports show Democratic House District 72 challenger Edward James III added another fundraising win over incumbent Republican Rep. Ray Pilon, though neither camp brought in much for the month.
James’ campaign account took in $4,540 in August, with nearly all of the money coming in the way of small checks from individuals. His political committee, New Direction Florida, filed a waiver for the month.
The numbers are a sharp drop from July, when the Sarasota Democrat declared he had the best fundraising month among all House candidates with $36,500 between his campaign account and committee.
James still bested Pilon, who brought in $1,500 by way of a $1,000 contribution from Citizens for Fiscal Leadership, a committee associated with Sens. Denise Grimsley and David Simmons, and a $500 check from the Dearborn, Michigan-based ACPAC Automobile Club.
Pilon spent $3,600 over the course of the month, leaving him with $45,363 cash on-hand heading into September. James has $34,923 on-hand in his campaign account with another $19,606 in his political committee.
